MENTAL HEALTH BELONGS IN
THE OPEN

Workplaces that create space for honest conversations help people thrive and feel more engaged in their work.

WE HELP ORGANIZATIONS BUILD CARING WORKPLACES

Pulse Check Mental Health helps organizations build strong, caring workplaces, especially when they do not have the time or internal resources to lead mental health initiatives on their own.

Through programs like Mental Health First Aid and The Working Mind, combined with insight from peer support experience, Pat works with teams to create environments where people feel seen, supported, and confident in addressing mental health together.

Pulse Check Mental Health was founded on a simple belief: Mental health belongs in the open. Workplaces that create space for honest conversations help people thrive and feel more engaged in their work.

PATRICK ZAZELENCHUK

Pulse Check Mental Health started from a place of real understanding. Patrick’s own dark times in 1998 shaped his life and perspective on mental health. Surviving that period influenced not only his recovery but the work he does today.

He facilitates training with a balance of professional expertise and real-life experience, creating space for honest conversations that make mental health approachable, relatable, and actionable. Pat is not here to be perfect, he is here to be real. When people feel safe to speak openly, growth happens for everyone.

QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR SERVICES?

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MHFA ESSENTIALS & CERTIFICATION?

MHFA Essentials is a 6-hour course, while MHFA Certification is a 12-hour program. Both focus on four key objectives: increasing mental health awareness, improving confidence to provide help, reducing stigma, and enhancing participants’ personal mental health.

Certification goes deeper, covering effective communication, understanding stigma more thoroughly, exploring specific disorders, and examining factors that influence mental health. Participants practice these skills in a group setting and become accredited Mental Health First Aiders.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID & THE WORKING MIND?

MHFA trains people to help someone in a mental health crisis, teaching how to recognize warning signs and respond with support. The Working Mind focuses on workplace prevention, building resilience, reducing stigma, and creating safer environments.

Many organizations choose to offer both programs because they work together. One helps prevent challenges from escalating, and the other gives teams the skills to respond when support is needed.

TESTIMONIALS

Real change happens when people feel seen, heard, and supported. Here's what past participants have to say about their experience with Pulse Check Mental Health.

I had a call this week from a worker who was very upset and told me she has been thinking sporadically of suicide. I was very calm and took the information you had given us in class and applied it to our conversation. This helped me and her so much. I want to thank you so much, Pat. Without your class, I would have gone into panic mode. Please keep doing what you’re doing—it really is making a difference.
